Responsive web design is a HOT topic right now.  As your fave Brand Strategist (who aims to keep you updated on all of the latest and greatest that can help you grow your business), it’s really important for us to take a time out together and wrap your mind around why your brand likely needs responsive web design.

To help illustrate what responsive web design is and how it works, here’s a great infographic that puts it very simply:

If you learn best via infographic (I know I sure love ’em), here’s a link to 10 awesome infographics that will tell you everything you need to know to understand responsive web design/development.

Let me summarize key points for why you’d want to look at making your website a responsive web design:

  • Right away, you’ll have a GORGEOUS site on any device that its viewed on. No more pinching and spreading and scrolling all over pages on your mobile device to view the web content. Everyone gets a great experience with your website no matter what device they are using, be it a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
  • More and more people are using the tablets and smartphones to view the internet. If your site doesn’t look great there, chances are they won’t be able to fully appreciate what you have to offer.  We used to have to develop a mobile site to create a good on-the-go experience with a website, but those days are fading fast, thanks to genius coding/development.
  • It is SUCH a simple switch. Usually just requires a theme change (if your website is using WordPress). One of my favorite theme developers is even having a 50% off sale right now for her responsive web themes.
  • Your design gets to be nice and CLEAN.  The magic is in these sites’ simplicity!  Rather than having to invest in some big crazy custom development, you can simply have a gorgeous, branded, beautiful site.  Look for a theme that would require the least amount of changes to help you save time. Another great place to look for responsive web themes is CreativeMarket.com. To be perfectly honest, I’d rather you make your site a responsive site, even using a basic theme, than investing in fancy coding right now. You’ll get WAY more bang for your buck doing it that way. (Why spend lots of money on a fancy, intricate website that only looks good on one or two devices – neither of those being a mobile device?)

Here are a few examples of some of my favorite, GORGEOUS responsive web designs (click on the image to be redirected to where you can learn more about each theme):

You can actually view how the website will look on the other devices from your desktop/laptop computer by using your mouse to click on the bottom right corner of your web browser window. As you shorten the width of your browser window (if it’s a responsive website, like my website is) then you’ll see the content start to shift around and adjust to the width. When you shorten the width by about half, that’s what it would look like on a tablet. When you shorten the width down to as small as it can go, that’s what it will look like on a smartphone.

Genius, right?  Now, don’t delay and go get your site moved into a responsive format right away! xoxo
